This is what I’d look at:
- The fact that you downloaded an entire iCloud Photo Library in 8 hours is pretty fast. So fast that it makes me suspect it’s not done.
- The warning about incomplete items makes me think my suspicion is correct. You can login to iCloud to see how many photos are in the library, then open the downloaded library and delete the incomplete items, and compare the difference. If the difference isn’t huge, maybe it’s good enough.
- I don’t know why MacDrive wouldn’t recognize an APFS drive, but if I had to troubleshoot I’d reformat as HFS+. APFS is supported by MacDrive, but it’s a much newer format, so for the sake of simplicity, I’d stick with something more proven.proven.
