Your capture format will depend on your source, capture device, and capture software. I use Premiere Pro to capture DV video from MiniDV tapes. That’s the native format of the tape, so I do have to then export to MP4 as a second step. I don’t think there’s any way around that.
Other devices like the ElGato capture from analog sources and save directly to the MP4 format.
