Thanks, Lisa! Now, if only I’d gotten a head start on this when I was working from home. We’re back in the office now and I’m mostly doing nothing. All of this time could be better spent. I might have to start going home to scan on my lunch break just to get somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestions, Kate! I’ll look into them! I appreciate the Black Friday tip!

As of now, I’ve just started to use a program called Clockify (www.clockify.me). I was looking for something to use to time how long it takes to do various tasks, including scanning. It’s working pretty well so far! I’m using the free version, so I have to input tasks manually, but there’s an upgrade at $10/mo that allows you to use templates. Not much in the way of client management, other than being able to assign projects to clients. I’m also using Excel for now just to see what works for me.

Welcome, Katherine! It sounds like you have a nice goal already with your presentation! Have you seen Cathi’s Community Presentation, “Organizing Printed Photos”? If you look under the Document Library, you’ll find the downloadable slides, reference guide, and a link to the demo video. That would be a great way to start. It sounds like your class will be hands-on, so maybe they could organize a shoebox full of photos so they learn the skills? It might be just overwhelming enough to realize they need to hire you. lol. Either as a coach or to do the organizing for them.

            Thanks for your reply, Adam!

You’ve got me thinking about the system I use at work for tracking the progress of my incentive groups and how it would really suit this type of work. I’ll just need to build a comparable spreadsheet to use for this to start with. I think that will help me declutter my mind, too. There are so many steps to remember!

I think I’ll wait to take anyone on right now while I set my system up. I don’t have any type of literature or pricing or anything yet. That will also give me some time to get the first phase of the slide project underway.

I start full time again at the day job on Monday and feel like I need to get a handle on that again. I’m almost positive I’ll have time to work on the computer stuff there. Also, business webinars from the forum.

Maybe for now, I can tell my friend’s contact that I’m booked right now, but I can add her to my waitlist?

            Thanks again!

Awesome. This will really come in handy! I’m so tired of dragging my EHD from my office to the dining room table to the couch, etc…  I’ve already forgotten it was there a couple of times and it’s taken a nosedive off the edge of the table and crashed onto the rug. Working with the wireless drive will be much more conducive to my movements. Thank you so much for your time and expertise!!

Thank you, Rebecca! I’ve already checked #3 off my list, thanks to the FB group! Now if only my cousin would take them off my hands. lol. I’ve derailed myself the past couple of weeks with a personal project of finally making a wedding album for our 5th anniversary next week! The album part was easy with SmartAlbums, but the cover is giving me trouble in Photoshop (the only program Miller’s has a template for), so I’m doing a lot of tutorials to learn the program. I have a lot more that I want  to make, and a skill I want to have, so I’m DIYing.

What I really need to focus on next is #2, the slides from my inlaws. Wish me luck!

                  Hello again!

Thanks for your reply! I sync everything to the Dropbox folder on my F drive, which is my external hard drive. I would want Synology to replace that drive, but with the same setup.

Will I be able to basically just swap my EHD at home with the NAS?

                    Hi Kathy!

I don’t have access to the virtual conference, but have been looking into Synology NAS this week. I’m still not sure I understand if it will do what I need it to do.

I want something for my home that I can use wirelessly, but that acts like the external hard drive that’s dangling off my PC laptop. If I install a NAS and then map the drive to… say… the Z:\ drive, like I’ve seen online. Can I go into File Explorer and navigate to that drive and use the file folders like I’m used to?

I keep seeing the web interface and wouldn’t use it. I backup to Dropbox and it seems like the same sort of deal.

                    Hope that makes sense?

                    Kathy

                      Hi Holly!

People are still getting used to using the Forum instead of the Facebook group. I don’t know the answer to this, but if you post the link to this post in there, they’ll come in and answer it. Hope that helps!

                        Hi Celina! Welcome!

This group has been so inspiring! I finished one of my projects already and added a couple more to my list. I’m currently creating a photo album for our 5th wedding anniversary based on tips I’ve picked up in TPM.

OH WOW. This helped me immensely! Thank you, Darrell Davis!! I’m just getting started and am overwhelmed by the sheer number of slides that my inlaws have. The Index Sheets idea is going to save me a ton of time! No use in scanning all those slides of flowers, when I know what they really want are the picture pages. This will allow THEM to choose which slides to do a proper scan of.
