As the leading industry association for professional photo managers, we at The Photo Managers are excited to share insights into the incredible earning potential and business growth opportunities in this dynamic field.

In a recent video presentation, our CEO and founder, Cathi Nelson, dove deep into the key services clients are seeking. Next, she also outlined the steps to building a successful photo management business. Finally, Cathi explained all the different membership levels we offer to support aspiring and established professionals.

One of the most eye-opening revelations was the sheer scale of the problem that photo managers are solving for their clients. In our increasingly digital world, most people are drowning in a sea of smartphone snapshots, old printed photos, slides, and home movies – all of which hold deep personal and historical significance, yet remain woefully unorganized and inaccessible. This is where professional photo managers step in, leveraging their expertise to not only organize these precious memories, but to help clients rediscover and share the stories behind them. It’s a profoundly meaningful service that is very much in demand.

Our recent member survey uncovered some fascinating data points about the photo management industry. For example, the majority of our members (66%) work their business full or part-time, while 33% pursue it as a side gig or retirement activity. And the top requested services – printed photo organizing, scanning, digital organizing, and photo book creation – are all highly lucrative revenue streams. Perhaps most compelling for aspiring entrepreneurs, the average photo manager takes on 2-3 new clients per month, with 80% of those clients becoming repeat business. That kind of consistent, recurring revenue is the holy grail for any small business owner.

So if you’re looking to start or grow an online business in 2025, we highly encourage you to explore the world of professional photo management. With the right training, tools, and industry connections – which we’re proud to provide through our various membership levels – it’s a field ripe with opportunity. We look forward to welcoming you into our thriving community of photo management professionals.
