One of my greatest joys as a parent was watching my kids play with their favorite doll or stuffed animal. Nothing is cuter than seeing your child try to feed, put to sleep, rock and love a special toy. My son had a stuffed lion cub from the movie The Lion King, that he took everywhere from the age of 1 until 4. We called him “baby” and he was Joshua’s constant companion. One time we left baby behind in a restaurant, which resulted in a complete meltdown until we drove back in a raging snowstorm to bring him home. As Joshua grew he slept with baby, until one day I noticed baby was no longer under the covers. My little boy was growing up and I found baby carefully tucked away in a drawer. I knew that the time had come for me to put his childhood companion in a safe place for the day when my son becomes a Dad. I brought an archive quality memorabilia box, added a label on the outside and carefully placed baby and other cherished childhood toys in the box. I smiled as I stored this box of treasures in my closet, secure in the knowledge that ‘baby’ would be safe until the day came when I would reunite him with ‘adult’ Joshua.

Once you see them gathering dust, forgotten for now, take the time to gather those items and place them in a safe place. The years pass quickly and someday you’ll open the box and take a trip down memory lane with your grown child.
