Hi Paul, I tried that originally but the dates were off for the movies and she has alot of them (the reason she ran out of space). But I did play around with that and if I export originals and check the “export ITPC as XMP” I seem to get the correct date. Using PM to rename. Sounds right?
Her goal is to make more room on her iCPL and back up her media in non-propietary SW. Once it is backed up, she will delete many of the older videos from the iCPL as she does not need to access them from her phone. She has a PC household.
Moving forward she will continue to take photos with her iPhone and to manage them, We have narrowed it to 2 options:
- Set up iCloud for Windows on Dell and have download full Res to folders on Dell
- Amazon Photos: Free with Amazon Prime but need to pay $60/yr for your Video Size. Drawback, Need to download all if you stop being an amazon user or pay more if you choose not to be a Prime Member. But a good Backup Solution
Opinions on this? Her long term goal is to safeguard her photos while not having to pay too much for the iCPL (she pays for the 200GB).
Thanks Adam, I did see the originals folder contained all photos, but it does not seem to be in folders in any rhyme or reason. Is there a method to the folders 0-9 and A-F. I am trying to extract originals from 2020 with date created in tact.
Adam, Do you do that on a MAC or PC? If PC do you achieve this by plugging the phone into a PC, do you use the Windows Photos App for the transfer? Or something else.

Hi All, I have a client who ran out of space with her iCloud acct because of many many videos of her son’s performances, which she does not need to keep in the iCloud. She contacted me to help her move everything out of the iCloud and back it up so she can delete and make room as she does not want to spend the extra monthly amount for 1TB of iCloud. She has an iPhone and a Dell running Windows 10. My question is for her workflow moving forward so she does not get into this issue again. Based on the above there are many options. I feel the OneDrive is out for the reason she does not want to pay more for iCloud storage. My thought is to have her setup and use iCloud for Windows and then she can download the videos and anything else she would like to the EHD, then delete from the cloud. Actually, isn’t there a way to automatically have items from the iCloud download into folders on a PC? This is all for keeping space open in the iCloud for future pics. I will also be recommending backup procedures for the EHD, I was thinking either BackBlaze or Amazon Photos as she has Amazon Prime. What are your thoughts?
Molly, I am so sorry you are experiencing this. I know how frustrating and stressful this is. I wish I knew why and could anticipate.
Update. With time and rebooting, I have gotten all but one of the EHD to be recognized with all the data intact. Not sure what the issue was but it did persist for a couple days. No fun. Thank you Adam for your input as it did lead me to think maybe my EHDs were not bad as the apple technician indicated.

Thanks for the response. I should also say that when originally copying the data from 5TB to 8TB, I left it overnight and when I came back in the morning, my MAC had shutdown. I could not bring it up and had to call Apple support. They managed to my iMAC in shape but could not mount the 5TB and so they were the ones who suggested it was corrupt. However, I now have 3 EHD that will not mount and cannot do first aid on. See attached. I am trying to mount from my laptop and am getting the same scenario as my iMAC.
Thoughts? I am very frustrated right now, I know we have al been there.
